  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to motor vehicle accidents;

  3         amending s. 316.062, F.S.; prescribing duty of

  4         a driver of a vehicle involved in an accident

  5         to remain at the accident scene and provide

  6         information; providing penalties; providing an

  7         effective date.

  9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10

11         Section 1.  Subsection (1) of section 316.062, Florida

12  Statutes, is amended to read:

13         316.062  Duty to give information and render aid.--

14         (1)  The driver of any vehicle involved in an accident

15  resulting in injury to or death of any person or damage to any

16  vehicle or other property which is driven or attended by any

17  person shall give his or her name, address, and the

18  registration number of the vehicle he or she is driving;, and

19  shall upon request and if available exhibit his or her license

20  or permit to drive, to any person injured in such accident, or

21  to the driver or occupant of or person attending any vehicle

22  or other property damaged in the accident, or a person

23  attending any person injured or killed in the accident and

24  shall give such information and, upon request, exhibit such

25  license or permit to any police officer at the scene of the

26  accident or who is investigating the accident; and shall

27  render to any person injured in the accident reasonable

28  assistance, including the carrying, or the making of

29  arrangements for the carrying, of such person to a physician,

30  surgeon, or hospital for medical or surgical treatment if it

  1  is apparent that treatment is necessary, or if such carrying

  2  is requested by the injured person.

  3         Section 2.  This act shall take effect October 1, 1999.

      Prescribes the duty of the driver of a vehicle involved
  8    in an accident resulting in injury, death, or property
      damage to provide information to a person attending a
  9    person injured or killed in the accident.
