  1                      A bill to be entitled
  2         An act relating to education; amending s.
  3         229.601, F.S.; requiring the Commissioner of
  4         Education, through the career education
  5         program, to develop procedures and resources
  6         for school districts to provide students with a
  7         career plan for entry-level employment or
  8         postsecondary education; requiring certain
  9         counties to create a pilot project to serve as
10         a model; providing an effective date.

12  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

14         Section 1.  Paragraph (f) is added to subsection (2) of
15  section 229.601, Florida Statutes, to read:
16         229.601  Career education program.--
17         (f)  Develop procedures and resources for use by all
18  school districts in providing a 4-year career plan that
19  outlines courses in grades 9 through 12 to assist in preparing
20  students for related entry-level employment or postsecondary
21  education. Counties with a population in excess of 2 million
22  shall create a pilot project that will develop a model for
23  statewide implementation.
24         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 1999.

27                          SENATE SUMMARY
28    Requires the Commissioner of Education, through the
      career education program, to develop procedures and
29    resources for school districts to provide students with a
      career plan for entry-level employment or postsecondary
30    education. Requires counties with a population of more
      than 2 million to develop a pilot program.
