  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to school buses; requiring that

  3         buses purchased after a specified date and used

  4         in transporting certain students be equipped

  5         with safety belts that comply with specified

  6         standards; providing an effective date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10         Section 1.  Each school bus that is purchased after

11  December 31, 2000, and used to transport students in grades

12  pre-K through 12 must be equipped with safety belts in a

13  number sufficient to allow each student who is being

14  transported to use a separate safety belt. These safety belts

15  must meet the standards required under section 316.614,

16  Florida Statutes.

17         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

18  law.

21                          HOUSE SUMMARY

22    Requires that school buses purchased after December 31,
      2000, and used in transporting students who are in grades
23    pre-K through 12 be equipped with safety belts that
      conform to the requirements of s. 316.614, F.S., and be
24    equipped with enough safety belts to provide a separate
      one for each student.
