13         Senate Amendment (with title amendment) 

14         On page 69, between lines 9 and 10,

16  insert:

17         Section 56.  Paragraph (h) is added to subsection (1)

18  of section 458.311, Florida Statutes , 1998 Supplement, to

19  read:

20         458.311  Licensure by examination; requirements;

21  fees.--

22         (1)  Any person desiring to be licensed as a physician

23  shall apply to the department to take the licensure

24  examination. The department shall examine each applicant whom

25  the board certifies:

26         (h)  Has obtained a passing score, as established by

27  rule of the board, on the licensure examination of the United

28  States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE); or a combination

29  of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE),

30  the examination of the Federation of State Medical Boards of

31  the United States, Inc. (FLEX), or the examination of the

 1  National Board of Medical Examiners up to the year 2000; or

 2  for the purpose of examination of any applicant who was

 3  licensed on the basis of a state board examination and who is

 4  currently licensed in at least one other jurisdiction of the

 5  United States or Canada, and who has practiced pursuant to

 6  such licensure for a period of at least 10 years, use of the

 7  Special Purpose Examination of the Federation of State Medical

 8  Boards of the United States (SPEX) upon receipt of a passing

 9  score as established by rule of the board. However, for the

10  purpose of examination of any applicant who was licensed on

11  the basis of a state board examination prior to 1974, who is

12  currently licensed in at least three other jurisdictions of

13  the United States or Canada, and who has practiced pursuant to

14  such licensure for a period of at least 20 years, this

15  paragraph does not apply.
