  1                    Senate Resolution No.     

  2         A resolution commending the Freemasons and

  3         Jacque A. Couture, for their contributions to

  4         this state.

  5

  6         WHEREAS, Freemasonry began in medieval times and has

  7  been organized since the 18th century, and

  8         WHEREAS, Freemasonry was transplanted to the American

  9  colonies by English and Irish Masons during the early decades

10  of the 18th century, and, as early as 1734, Benjamin Franklin

11  was the Grand Master of Masons in Pennsylvania, and

12         WHEREAS, Jacque A. Couture currently serves as Grand

13  Master of Masons of Florida and is the leader of tens of

14  thousands of Florida Masons and hundreds of thousands of

15  Masons from across the country and around the world who

16  sojourn in this state, and

17         WHEREAS, Jacque A. Couture has also been recognized for

18  service to his community in several capacities outside of

19  Freemasonry, and

20         WHEREAS, Jacque A. Couture has served the Masonic

21  bodies since he was raised to the degree of Master Mason on

22  July 31, 1972, and

23         WHEREAS, Jacque A. Couture has served his fellow man in

24  various capacities within the Masonic bodies of this state,

25  including active membership in Composite Lodge No. 293, where

26  he served as Worshipful Master; Orlando York Rite Bodies and

27  Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Orlando; Bahia Temple,

28  A.A.O.N.M.S.; Orlando High Twelve No. 635; and Composite

29  Chapter No. 305, O.E.S., and

30         WHEREAS, Jacque A. Couture has served the youth in his

31  community through years of service to the Order of DeMolay,

  1  including serving as Chapter Dad for Bahia Chapter, and

  2  currently is an honorary member of the International Supreme

  3  Council of DeMolay, and

  4         WHEREAS, Jacque A. Couture has served the Grand Lodge

  5  of Florida in several capacities before being elected Grand

  6  Master, including as District Deputy Grand Master of the 16th

  7  Masonic District, Junior Grand Steward, Junior Grand Deacon,

  8  and Junior Grand Warden, and

  9         WHEREAS, it is fitting and appropriate that the Florida

10  Senate pause in its deliberations to honor the Freemasons and

11  Jacque A. Couture for their contributions to this state, NOW,

12  THEREFORE,

14  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

15

16         That the Florida Senate commends the Freemasons of

17  Florida and Jacque A. Couture for their contributions to this

18  state.

19         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,

20  with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Jacque A.

21  Couture, Grand Master of Masons of Florida, as a tangible

22  token of the sentiments of the Florida Senate.
