7 WHEREAS, Nightly Business Report is America's Number
8 One daily business news program and is viewed in more than 1
9 million households in the United States every weeknight, and
10 WHEREAS, the Nightly Business Report is a production of
11 public broadcasting station WPBT in Miami, which is the
12 largest and oldest public television station in Florida, and
13 WHEREAS, Nightly Business Report is the most watched
14 and longest-running daily business news program on broadcast
15 or cable television, and
16 WHEREAS, NBR provides business and economic news and
17 investment information in a fast-paced format to help people
18 manage their money and stay on top of the news that affects
19 their stock portfolios, and
20 WHEREAS, Nightly Business Report premiered as a Miami
21 regional program on January 22, 1979, with national
22 distribution beginning in 1981, and
23 WHEREAS, NBR is available to 95 percent of homes in the
24 United States that have television, and
25 WHEREAS, NBR is affiliated with over 273 public
26 television stations, and
27 WHEREAS, National Business Report is distributed
28 internationally on the United States Information Agency's
29 Worldnet satellite network and the Armed Forces Television
30 Services Satellite Network, and

1 WHEREAS, Nightly Business Report celebrated its 20th
2 Anniversary on January 20, 1999, NOW, THEREFORE,

4 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

6 That Nightly Business Report and station WPBT are
7 recognized as pioneers in the television industry in their
8 efforts to bring daily business news to the residents of
9 Florida and the United States, and are commended on their
10 outstanding accomplishments during the past 20 years.
