  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to health care for elderly

  3         persons; providing intent; authorizing the

  4         Department of Elderly Affairs and the Agency

  5         for Health Care Administration to develop a

  6         program to assist certain elderly persons with

  7         certain prescription-drug costs; providing an

  8         effective date.

10  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

12         Section 1.  It is the intent of the Legislature to

13  provide elderly persons of low income or moderate income with

14  assistance in obtaining prescription drugs for serious and

15  chronic illnesses at the most reasonable cost. The Department

16  of Elderly Affairs and the Agency for Health Care

17  Administration may develop a program to assist such persons

18  with prescription-drug costs.

19         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 1999.
