  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to the Organ Transplant

  3         Advisory Council; amending s. 381.0602, F.S.;

  4         increasing the number of council members;

  5         increasing the length of the chairperson's term

  6         of office; providing an effective date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10         Section 1.  Subsections (1) and (4) of section

11  381.0602, Florida Statutes, are amended to read:

12         381.0602  Organ Transplant Advisory Council;

13  membership; responsibilities.--

14         (1)  There is hereby created within the Agency for

15  Health Care Administration a statewide technical Organ

16  Transplant Advisory Council consisting of 12 eight members to

17  represent the interests of the public and the clients of the

18  Department of Health or the agency. The members shall be

19  physicians licensed according to chapter 458 or chapter 459. A

20  person employed by the agency may not be appointed as a member

21  of the council.

22         (4)  The members of the council shall elect a

23  chairperson. The term of the chairperson shall be for 2 years

24  1 year, and an individual may not serve as chairperson for

25  more than two consecutive terms.

26         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 1999.

29                          SENATE SUMMARY

30    Increases, from 8 to 12, the number of members on the
      Organ Transplant Advisory Council. Increases the length
31    of the chairperson's term of office from 1 year to 2
      years.
