  1                    Senate Resolution No.     

  2         A resolution honoring Rachel Avery for her

  3         selection as a Distinguished Finalist in the

  4         Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program.

  5

  6         WHEREAS, the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards is a

  7  nationwide program that honors young people for outstanding

  8  acts of volunteerism, and

  9         WHEREAS, this year, 10 Distinguished Finalists were

10  selected from each state, out of almost 20,000 middle and high

11  school students who were considered for the awards, and

12         WHEREAS, Rachel Avery, of Warrington, a member of the

13  Northwest Girl Scout Council in Pensacola, was selected as one

14  of the 10 Distinguished Finalists in this state as a result of

15  her efforts in starting a peer counseling group for students

16  with attention deficit disorder, and

17         WHEREAS, Rachel Avery and other young people like her

18  are critical to the future of our communities, state, and

19  nation, and

20         WHEREAS, Rachel Avery serves as an example that will

21  hopefully encourage other young people and all Americans to

22  become involved in volunteering, and

23         WHEREAS, Rachel Avery has brought national honor and

24  recognition to the State of Florida through her unselfish

25  efforts in helping others, NOW, THEREFORE,

26

27  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

28

29         That Rachel Avery is commended for bringing honor and

30  recognition to the Northwest Girl Scout Council, her school,

31  her community, and her state by her selection as a

  3         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,

  6  Senate.
