1 Senate Resolution No.
2 A resolution honoring Dr. Willis N. Holcombe,
3 President of Broward Community College.

5 WHEREAS, Dr. Willis N. Holcombe was born on April 18,
6 1945, in Iron Mountain, Michigan, and
7 WHEREAS, he received his bachelor's degree at the
8 Baldwin-Wallace College, then obtained his master's and
9 doctoral degrees at the University of Florida, and
10 WHEREAS, Dr. Willis N. Holcombe has served with
11 distinction as the President of Broward Community College
12 since 1987, and
13 WHEREAS, Dr. Holcombe began his career at Broward
14 Community College in 1974 as the Assistant to the President,
15 and
16 WHEREAS, he rapidly advanced to the positions of
17 Academic Dean, Provost, and Vice-President during his tenure
18 at Broward Community College, and
19 WHEREAS, Dr. Holcombe advocates on behalf of education
20 through his involvement in multiple associations and
21 commissions, and
22 WHEREAS, Dr. Holcombe has been a leader in workforce
23 development in Florida, both through his position as President
24 of Broward Community College and as a member of the Workforce
25 Development Board, and
26 WHEREAS, students throughout the state have benefited
27 from Dr. Holcombe's working to improve articulation, and
28 WHEREAS, much of Dr. Holcombe's free time is committed
29 to the United Way of Broward County, the Greater Fort
30 Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce, and the Holocaust
31 Documentation and Education Center, Inc., and

1 WHEREAS, his wife, Jo, and his children, Megan, Ben,
2 and Joe, share in his contributions to the Broward Community
3 College and the State of Florida, NOW, THEREFORE,
4
5 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
6
7 That the Florida Senate recognizes the distinguished
8 career of Dr. Willis N. Holcombe and his outstanding
9 contributions to the Broward Community College, the Community
10 College System, and the State of Florida and expresses the
11 sincere gratitude and appreciation of this body for Dr.
12 Holcombe's service to the students of our state.
13 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,
14 with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Dr.
15 Willis N. Holcombe, as a tangible token of the sentiments of
16 the Florida Senate.
