  1                    Senate Resolution No.     

  2         A resolution recognizing May 1999 as "Community

  3         Action Month," in recognition of the work done

  4         by Northeast Florida Community Action Agency,

  5         Inc.

  6

  7         WHEREAS, Northeast Florida Community Action Agency,

  8  Inc. (NFCAA) was created out of the Economic Opportunity Act

  9  of 1964, and

10         WHEREAS, NFCAA has a 34-year history of promoting

11  self-sufficiency for those who have limited incomes, and

12         WHEREAS, NFCAA has made an essential contribution to

13  individuals and families in Northeast Florida, by providing

14  them with innovative and cost-effective programs, and

15         WHEREAS, NFCAA is needed as a major participant in the

16  reform of the welfare system as we know it, and

17         WHEREAS, welfare reform in Northeast Florida has

18  benefited from each county's partnership with NFCAA, and

19         WHEREAS, those who have limited incomes continue to

20  need opportunities to improve their lives and their living

21  conditions, thus ensuring that all citizens are able to live

22  in dignity, and

23         WHEREAS, the State of Florida and the entire United

24  States must continue to wage war on poverty by providing

25  support and opportunities for everyone who is in need of

26  assistance, NOW, THEREFORE,

28  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

29

30         That the Florida Senate recognizes May 1999 as

31  "Community Action Month" in Northeast Florida, in recognition

  3         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,

  5  Northeast Florida Community Action Agency, Inc., as a tangible

  6  token of the sentiments of the Florida Senate.
