  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to orthotics, prosthetics, and

  3         pedorthics; amending s. 468.805, F.S.;

  4         extending the deadline for a person who has

  5         practiced orthotics, prosthetics, or pedorthics

  6         for the required period to apply for licensure,

  7         based on the person's experience and

  8         educational preparation, without meeting the

  9         educational requirements set forth in statute;

10         providing an effective date.

12  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13

14         Section 1.  Subsection (1) of section 468.805, Florida

15  Statutes, is amended to read:

16         468.805  Licensure without examination; provisional

17  licensure.--

18         (1)  A person who has practiced orthotics, prosthetics,

19  or pedorthics in this state for the required period since July

20  1, 1990, who, before July March 1, 1999 1998, applies to the

21  department for a license to practice orthotics, prosthetics,

22  or pedorthics, may be licensed as a prosthetist, orthotist,

23  prosthetist-orthotist, orthotic fitter, orthotic fitter

24  assistant, or pedorthist, as determined from the person's

25  experience and educational preparation, without meeting the

26  educational requirements set forth in s. 468.803, upon receipt

27  of the application fee and licensing fee and after the board

28  has completed an investigation into the applicant's background

29  and experience. The board shall require an application fee not

30  to exceed $500, which shall be nonrefundable. The board shall

31  complete its investigation within 6 months after receipt of

  1  the application. The period of experience required for

  2  licensure under this subsection is 5 years for a prosthetist;

  3  2 years for an orthotic fitter, an orthotic fitter assistant,

  4  or a pedorthist; and 5 years for an orthotist whose scope of

  5  practice is defined under s. 468.80(7).

  6         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

  7  law.
