  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to motor vehicle license fees;

  3         amending s. 320.01, F.S.; redefining the term

  4         "for-hire vehicle"; providing an effective

  5         date.

  7  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  8

  9         Section 1.  Paragraph (b) of subsection (15) of section

10  320.01, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:

11         320.01  Definitions, general.--As used in the Florida

12  Statutes, except as otherwise provided, the term:

13         (15)

14         (b)  The following are not included in the term

15  "for-hire vehicle": a motor vehicle used for transporting

16  school children to and from school under contract with school

17  officials; a hearse or ambulance when operated by a licensed

18  embalmer or mortician or his or her agent or employee in this

19  state; a motor vehicle used in the transportation of

20  agricultural or horticultural products or in transporting

21  agricultural or horticultural supplies direct to growers or

22  the consumers of such supplies or to associations of such

23  growers or consumers; a motor vehicle temporarily used by a

24  farmer for the transportation of agricultural or horticultural

25  products from any farm or grove to a packinghouse or to a

26  point of shipment by a transportation company; or a motor

27  vehicle not exceeding 1 1/2  tons under contract with the

28  Government of the United States to carry United States mail,

29  provided such vehicle is not used for commercial purposes; or

30  a motor vehicle, designed to carry not more than nine

  1  passengers, leased to an individual for private, noncommercial

  2  purposes for a term of not less than 2 years.

  3         Section 2.  This act shall take effect October 1, 1999.
