1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to health care contracts;
3 amending s. 627.419, F.S.; providing that
4 health insurance policies that provide certain
5 benefits must pay for the services of advanced
6 registered nurse practitioners; providing an
7 effective date.

9 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11 Section 1. Subsection (9) is added to section 627.419,
12 Florida Statutes, 1998 Supplement, to read:
13 627.419 Construction of policies.--
14 (9) Any health insurance policy that provides for
15 payment for services when performed by a physician licensed
16 under chapters 458 or 459, which services may be legally
17 performed by licensed advanced registered nurse practitioners,
18 shall be construed as providing for payment of such services
19 if performed by a licensed advanced registered nurse
20 practitioner. Services of an advanced registered nurse
21 practitioner shall only be performed in accordance with
22 protocols and under physician medical supervision or on-site
23 medical direction as required by ss. 464.012 and 395.0191.
24 Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
25 law.

Provides that health insurance policies that provide
4 benefits for services performed by physicians which are
within the scope of an advanced registered nurse
5 practitioner's professional license must also provide
coverage for the services of licensed advanced registered
6 nurse practitioners.
