  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to the turnpike system;

  3         amending s. 338.231, F.S.; directing the

  4         Department of Transportation to provide

  5         described fees to be paid for the use of the

  6         Florida Turnpike with respect to certain

  7         motorcycles; providing an effective date.

  9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11         Section 1.  Subsection (8) is added to section 338.231,

12  Florida Statutes, to read:

13         338.231  Turnpike tolls, fixing; pledge of tolls and

14  other revenues.--The department shall at all times fix,

15  adjust, charge, and collect such tolls for the use of the

16  turnpike system as are required in order to provide a fund

17  sufficient with other revenues of the turnpike system to pay

18  the cost of maintaining, improving, repairing, and operating

19  such turnpike system; to pay the principal of and interest on

20  all bonds issued to finance or refinance any portion of the

21  turnpike system as the same become due and payable; and to

22  create reserves for all such purposes.

23         (8)  In fixing, adjusting, and collecting tolls for the

24  use of the turnpike system, effective October 1, 1999, the

25  department shall provide that the fee for a motorcycle, a

26  motorcycle with a sidecar or a motorcycle towing a single axle

27  trailer, and a trike style of motorcycle which has three

28  wheels and two axles shall be equal to one-half of the

29  required toll a passenger motor vehicle pays to use the

30  Florida Turnpike.

31         Section 2.  This act shall take effect October 1, 1999.

      towing a single axle trailer, and trike style motorcycles
  5    shall be required to pay a toll equivalent to one-half of
      the toll charged for passenger motor vehicles to use the
  6    Florida Turnpike.
