  2         An act relating to license plates; amending ss.

  3         320.08056, 320.08058, F.S.; creating a Share

  4         the Road license plate; providing for the

  5         distribution of annual use fees received from

  6         the sale of such plates; providing effective

  7         date.

  9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11         Section 1.  Paragraph (z) is added to subsection (4) of

12  section 320.08056, Florida Statutes, 1998 Supplement, to read:

13         320.08056  Specialty license plates.--

14         (4)  The following license plate annual use fees shall

15  be collected for the appropriate specialty license plates:

16         (z)  Share the Road license plate, $15.

17         Section 2.  Subsection (26) is added to section

18  320.08058, Florida Statutes, 1998 Supplement, to read:

19         320.08058  Specialty license plates.--

20         (26)  SHARE THE ROAD LICENSE PLATES.--

21         (a)  The department shall develop a Share the Road

22  license plate as provided in this section. The word "Florida"

23  must appear at the top of the plate, and the words "Share the

24  Road" must appear at the bottom of the plate.

25         (b)  The annual use fees shall be distributed to the

26  Florida Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Amateur

27  Sports, a portion of which shall be used for marketing and

28  promotion of the "Share the Road" concept and license plate.

29  The remaining funds shall be divided equally between Bike

30  Florida, Inc., and the Florida Bicycle Association, Inc., to

31  be used for:

  1         1.  Education and awareness programs, for bicycle

  2  safety and motorist safety, with emphasis on sharing the

  3  roadway by all users.

  4         2.  Training, workshops, educational materials, and

  5  media events.

  6         3.  The promotion of safe bicycling.

  7         Section 3.  This act shall take effect July 1, 1999.
