  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to the offense of assuming the

  3         identity of another person; providing that it

  4         is a third-degree felony to knowingly assume

  5         the name, birth date, or social security number

  6         of another person for an unlawful purpose or

  7         for the purpose of causing a loss; providing an

  8         effective date.

10  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

12         Section 1.  Assuming the identity of another person

13  prohibited; penalty.--Any person who knowingly assumes the

14  name, birth date, or social security number of another person

15  without that person's consent and with the intent to obtain or

16  use the name, birth date, or social security number for an

17  unlawful purpose, or to cause loss to a person, commits a

18  felony of the third degree, punishable as provided in section

19  775.082, section 775.083, or section 775.084, Florida

20  Statutes.

21         Section 2.  This act shall take effect October 1, 1999.

24                          SENATE SUMMARY

25    Provides that it is a third-degree felony for a person to
      knowingly assume the name, birth date, or social security
26    number of another person without that person's consent
      and with the intent to unlawfully use the name, birth
27    date, or social security number or to cause a loss to a
      person.
