1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to community colleges;
3 requiring each community college to determine
4 the number of matriculated, degree-seeking
5 students enrolled at the community college;
6 providing requirements for classifying a
7 student as matriculated and degree-seeking;
8 requiring the classification to be used only
9 for specified purposes; providing an effective
10 date.

12 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

14 Section 1. (1) Beginning in the 1999-2000 school
15 year, each state community college shall determine the number
16 of students enrolled at the community college who are
17 matriculated, degree-seeking students. A student shall be
18 classified as matriculated and degree-seeking if the student:
19 (a) Is not enrolled in a program of advanced placement
20 or early admission;
21 (b) Has met the testing requirements of section
22 240.117, Florida Statutes; and
23 (c) Has been classified by the community college as a
24 matriculated, degree-seeking student.
25 (2) The community college shall use the classification
26 of students as matriculated and degree-seeking for reports
27 required by section 240.324, Florida Statutes, the community
28 college accountability process. A student may maintain the
29 status of a degree-seeking student for other purposes, such as
30 eligibility for financial aid, even if the college has not

1 classified the student as a matriculated student for
2 accountability purposes.
3 Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
4 law.

6 STATEMENT OF SUBSTANTIAL CHANGES CONTAINED IN
COMMITTEE SUBSTITUTE FOR
7 SB 768

9 The Committee Substitute does not require a student to apply
for classification as matriculated and degree-seeking. The
10 community college will determine each student's
classification. The classification will be used only in
11 community college accountability reports; student eligibility
for financial aid will not be affected.
