  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to district school boards;

  3         amending s. 230.04, F.S.; allowing a school

  4         board member to be referred to by the term

  5         "commissioner"; providing an effective date.

  7  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  8

  9         Section 1.  Section 230.04, Florida Statutes, is

10  amended to read:

11         230.04  Membership of school board.--The school board

12  in each district shall be composed of not less than five

13  members. Each member of the school board shall be a qualified

14  elector of the district in which she or he serves, shall be a

15  resident of the school board member residence area from which

16  she or he is elected, and shall maintain such said residency

17  throughout her or his term of office. The term "commissioner"

18  may be used in addressing or referring to a school board

19  member.

20         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 1999.
