  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to the presidential preference

  3         primary; amending s. 103.101, F.S.; changing

  4         the date of the presidential preference

  5         primary; providing that any election scheduled

  6         to be held concurrent with the presidential

  7         preference primary in the year 2000 be changed

  8         to conform; providing an effective date.

10  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

12         Section 1.  Subsection (1) of section 103.101, Florida

13  Statutes, is amended and subsections (2), (3), (4), (5), (6),

14  (7), (8) and (9) are renumbered as subsections (3), (4), (5),

15  (6), (7), (8), (9) and (10) and a new subsection (2) is added

16  to said section to read:

17         103.101  Presidential preference primary.--

18         (1)  Each political party other than a minor political

19  party shall, on the first second Tuesday in March in each year

20  the number of which is a multiple of 4, elect one person to be

21  the candidate for nomination of such party for President of

22  the United States or select delegates to the national

23  nominating convention, as provided by party rule.

24         (2)  Notwithstanding any other provision of law, any

25  election which is currently scheduled to be held concurrent

26  with the presidential preference primary on the second Tuesday

27  in March of 2000 shall be held on the first Tuesday in March

28  2000.

29         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

30  law.
