2 An act relating to charter schools; amending s.
3 228.056, F.S.; prohibiting charter schools from
4 employing an individual who has resigned from a
5 school district in lieu of disciplinary action
6 or has been dismissed by any school district;
7 providing an effective date.

9 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11 Section 1. Paragraph (f) of subsection (12) of section
12 228.056, Florida Statutes, 1998 Supplement, is amended to
13 read:
14 228.056 Charter schools.--
15 (12) EMPLOYEES OF CHARTER SCHOOLS.--
16 (f) Teachers employed by or under contract to a
17 charter school shall be certified as required by chapter 231.
18 A charter school may employ or contract with skilled selected
19 noncertified personnel to provide instructional services or to
20 assist instructional staff members as education
21 paraprofessionals in the same manner as defined in chapter
22 231. A charter school may not employ an individual to provide
23 instructional services or to serve as an education
24 paraprofessional if the individual's certification or
25 licensure as an educator is suspended or revoked by this or
26 any other state, or if the individual has resigned from a
27 school district in lieu of disciplinary action or has been
28 dismissed for just cause by any school district. The
29 qualifications of teachers shall be disclosed to parents.
30 Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
31 law.
