  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution commending Rebekah Smith.

  3

  4         WHEREAS, Rebekah Smith, 17, an esteemed resident of

  5  Tampa and a student at Hillsborough High School, has achieved

  6  national recognition for exemplary volunteer service by

  7  receiving a 1999 Prudential Spirit of Community Award, and

  8         WHEREAS, this prestigious award, presented by The

  9  Prudential Insurance Company of America in partnership with

10  the National Association of Secondary Principals, honors young

11  volunteers across America who have demonstrated an

12  extraordinary commitment to serving their communities, and

13         WHEREAS, Rebekah Smith earned this award by giving

14  generously of her time and energy as a volunteer working with

15  hospitalized children in New York City and as a member of the

16  medical staff of a camp for children with HIV/AIDS and their

17  families, and

18         WHEREAS, the success of the State of Florida, the

19  strength of our communities, and the overall vitality of

20  American society depend, in great measure, upon the dedication

21  of young people like Ms. Smith who use their considerable

22  talents and resources to serve others, NOW, THEREFORE,

23

24  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

25  Florida:

26

27         That the House of Representatives hereby congratulates

28  and honors Rebekah Smith as a recipient of a Prudential Spirit

29  of Community Award, recognizes her outstanding record of

30  volunteer service, peer leadership, and community spirit, and
