1 House Resolution
2 A resolution recognizing the week beginning
3 March 14, 1999, as "Juvenile Justice Week."

5 WHEREAS, the Legislature and the Department of Juvenile
6 Justice envision a safer Florida where people experience the
7 benefits of life resulting from the reduced risk of harm
8 caused by juvenile delinquency, and
9 WHEREAS, the Legislature and the Department of Juvenile
10 Justice are committed to a balanced approach in addressing
11 juvenile crime, and
12 WHEREAS, stopping the younger juveniles from entering
13 or progressing any further into the juvenile justice system
14 will require special emphasis in the areas of prevention and
15 intervention and the support of the Legislature, law
16 enforcement, other state agencies, businesses, and local
17 communities and organizations, and
18 WHEREAS, within the 10-year time period between 1988
19 and 1998, Florida's 10-to-17-year-old age group increased 21
20 percent, while the volume of cases entering the juvenile
21 justice system increased by 52 percent, and
22 WHEREAS, the projected population growth for the
23 10-to-17-year-old age group is 13 percent over the next 10
24 years, and
25 WHEREAS, the Legislature and the Department of Juvenile
26 Justice are committed to reducing the juvenile crime rate,
27 NOW, THEREFORE,

29 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
30 Florida:

1 That the Florida House of Representatives hereby
2 recognizes the week beginning March 14, 1999, as "Juvenile
3 Justice Week" and urges the support and participation of all
4 citizens in making a conscious effort to prevent juvenile
5 crime.
