  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution honoring Delta Sigma Theta

  3         Sorority for its accomplishments and commitment

  4         to public service.

  6         WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, is a

  7  public service organization founded in 1913 by 22 women at

  8  Howard University in Washington, D.C., and

  9         WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, nationwide,

10  comprises over 916 chapters and more than 195,000 members and

11  has shown exemplary leadership and dedication to public

12  service for 86 years, and

13         WHEREAS, one of Delta's founding members, Winona

14  Cargile Alexander, resided in Jacksonville, Florida, until her

15  death, and Florida is most proud of its distinguished sorors

16  in the Florida Legislature, as well as over 41 collegiate and

17  alumnae chapters representing the national body, and

18         WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority forged a

19  partnership with Habitat for Humanity and has successfully

20  built over 100 homes across the nation in five years, fifteen

21  of which were built in two weeks, including one home in Miami,

22  Florida, NOW, THEREFORE,

24  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

25  Florida:

27         That the House of Representatives joins the nation in

28  recognizing the accomplishments of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority

29  and its strong commitment to public service nationally and

30  internationally.
