1 House Resolution
2 A resolution honoring the Glades Central High
3 School Raiders, winners of the State Division
4 4A High School Football Championship.

6 WHEREAS, the 1998 regular football season for the
7 Glades Central High School Raiders was marked by several
8 come-from-behind victories, earning the Raiders the nickname
9 "the Miracle Kids," and
10 WHEREAS, on Friday, December 18, 1998, the Glades
11 Central High School Raiders staged a 33-28 come-from-behind
12 victory over the Madison County High School Cowboys before a
13 crowd of 4,840 at Florida Field on the University of Florida
14 campus in Gainesville, and
15 WHEREAS, in doing so, the Glades Central High School
16 Raiders became the Division 4A High School Football Champions
17 in the State of Florida, and
18 WHEREAS, the victory was the culmination of a season in
19 which the Raiders were given little chance of playing for a
20 state championship, and
21 WHEREAS, Glades Central trailed Madison County 28-14
22 with only 6:41 remaining in the championship game, and
23 WHEREAS, Glades Central scored 19 points from three
24 touchdown passes in the final minutes of the game, and
25 WHEREAS, key to the Raiders' victory was junior wide
26 receiver, Reggie Vickers, who caught a 31-yard touchdown pass
27 with only 20 seconds remaining in the game, and
28 WHEREAS, Vickers caught 4 passes for 85 yards,
29 including two for touchdowns, and returned a kickoff 80 yards
30 for another score, and

1 WHEREAS, first-year quarterback Jerry Campbell
2 engineered the winning 97-yard drive for Glades Central,
3 finishing the night with 4 touchdown passes, going 18 of 36
4 for 301 yards, and
5 WHEREAS, Tremaine Knight and Antonio Thomas also caught
6 touchdown passes, with Thomas pulling in 9 receptions for 105
7 yards, and
8 WHEREAS, it is fitting and appropriate that the Glades
9 Central High School Raiders be acknowledged for their
10 outstanding 1998 regular season and their postseason
11 championship, NOW, THEREFORE,

13 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
14 Florida:

16 That the House of Representatives of the State of
17 Florida hereby recognizes the Glades Central High School
18 Raiders, winners of the Division 4A State High School Football
19 Championship.
20 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution
21 be presented to Milton Watson, Head Coach of the Glades
22 Central High School Raiders, to the assistant coaches, and to
23 each member of the Glades Central High School football team.
