1 House Resolution
2 A resolution designating the week of November
3 14-20, 1999, as "Florida Storytelling Week."

5 WHEREAS, the art of storytelling is a valuable method
6 of sharing American folklore and is thus a means of
7 contributing to the historical knowledge of our state, and
8 WHEREAS, the art of storytelling embraces the history
9 and lore of diverse cultures and exposes all Floridians to the
10 richness of our differences while fostering understanding
11 through knowledge, and
12 WHEREAS, the Florida Storytellers Guild, Inc., consists
13 of numerous storytellers in five regions throughout the state
14 who preserve, perpetuate, and promote the art of storytelling
15 in Florida by educating and encouraging storytellers for the
16 entertainment and edification of listeners, allowing
17 individuals and cultures to sense the value of sharing
18 stories, and
19 WHEREAS, the art of storytelling contributes to the
20 self-esteem of students as they learn the state's folklore and
21 share their stories with the community, NOW, THEREFORE,
22
23 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
24 Florida:

26 That the Florida House of Representatives commends the
27 Florida Storytellers Guild, Inc., and proclaims the week of
28 November 14-20, 1999, to be "Florida Storytelling Week."
29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution
30 be presented to Myra Davis, Administrator, Florida
