  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution commending Cornelia "Corky" Dozier

  3         for outstanding accomplishments and public

  4         service.

  5

  6         WHEREAS, Cornelia "Corky" Dozier is a black educator

  7  with an M.F.A. in theater and 30 years of professional theater

  8  experience who has dedicated her many talents to enriching her

  9  community through arts and education, and

10         WHEREAS, as founder and director of the Coconut Grove

11  Children's Theater, Miss Dozier has offered more than 300

12  young people, ages 3 through 17 years, the opportunity to

13  share their talents with over 40,000 children per year through

14  plays, concerts, theater, seminars, festivals, and television,

15  and

16         WHEREAS, this year, Miss Dozier is celebrating her 25th

17  year of working in theater for youth, with a focus on

18  developing self-esteem, confidence, and communications skills

19  and encouraging social change for youth, and

20         WHEREAS, in addition, Miss Dozier is celebrating her

21  30th year as a community leader dedicated to social change,

22  multicultural education, and intercultural communication, and

23         WHEREAS, Miss Dozier has established and promoted

24  programs in multicultural education and the arts on local,

25  state, and national levels, and has received numerous awards

26  and honors for her endeavors, all of which she feels have come

27  to her through children and through art, and

28         WHEREAS, the State of Florida owes a debt of gratitude

29  to community leaders such as Miss Dozier who are dedicated to

30  building better community relations and encouraging the

31  talents of youth, NOW, THEREFORE,

  1  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

  2  Florida:

  4         That the Florida House of Representatives hereby

  5  commends Cornelia "Corky" Dozier for her outstanding

  6  accomplishments in theater for youth and pays tribute to her

  7  years of public service as a leader in multicultural education

  8  and intercultural communication.

  9         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution

10  be presented to Cornelia "Corky" Dozier as a tangible token of

11  the sentiments expressed herein.
