1 House Resolution
2 A resolution honoring the American Red Cross
3 Volunteer Life Saving Corps for the volunteer
4 protective services provided to the City of
5 Jacksonville Beach, Florida.

7 WHEREAS, the American Red Cross Volunteer Life Saving
8 Corps was chartered on April 17, 1914, in Pablo Beach,
9 Florida, to provide much-needed beach lifeguarding services,
10 and
11 WHEREAS, since the inception of the Corps, its
12 volunteers have contributed over 1,084,374 hours of service,
13 saving taxpayers almost $100,000 annually, and
14 WHEREAS, the American Red Cross Volunteer Life Saving
15 Corps is the last such lifesaving organization still in
16 continuous operation in the United States, and
17 WHEREAS, the men and women of the Corps volunteer each
18 Sunday and holiday throughout the summer beach season to
19 provide protection for both residents and visitors alike and
20 have rescued or assisted more than 3,000 swimmers in distress
21 in the waters off Jacksonville beaches, and
22 WHEREAS, the American Red Cross Volunteer Life Saving
23 Corps has had a positive impact both on the community of
24 Jacksonville Beach and on the men and women who have
25 volunteered their time to the organization, NOW, THEREFORE,

27 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
28 Florida:

30 That the House of Representatives pauses in its
31 deliberations to pay tribute to the American Red Cross

1 Volunteer Life Saving Corps and to the men and women who have
2 proudly served the organization, and to express its
3 appreciation for the honor that the Corps brings to the
4 American Red Cross, the City of Jacksonville Beach, and the
5 State of Florida.
6 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution
7 be presented to Jack Morgan, Chairman of the Board of the
8 Northeast Flordia Chapter of the American Red Cross, to
9 Richard Riley, President of the Board of Directors of the
10 American Red Cross Volunteer Life Saving Corps, and to Brian
11 Miller, 1999 Captain of the American Red Cross Volunteer Life
12 Saving Corps, as a tangible token of the sentiments expressed
13 herein.
