1 House Resolution
2 A resolution recognizing the month of March as
3 "Women's History Month."

5 WHEREAS, American women of every race, class, and
6 ethnic background have made historic contributions to the
7 growth and strength of our nation in countless recorded and
8 unrecorded ways, and
9 WHEREAS, American women have played, and continue to
10 play, a critical role in the economic, cultural, and social
11 life of the nation by constituting a significant portion of
12 the labor force working inside and outside of the home, and
13 WHEREAS, American women have played a unique role
14 throughout the history of the nation by providing the majority
15 of the volunteer labor of the nation, and
16 WHEREAS, American women were particularly important in
17 the establishment of early charitable, philanthropic, and
18 cultural institutions in our nation, and
19 WHEREAS, American women of every race, class, and
20 ethnic background served as early leaders in the forefront of
21 every major progressive social change movement, and
22 WHEREAS, American women have been leaders, not only in
23 securing their own rights of suffrage and equal opportunity,
24 but also in the abolitionist movement, the emancipation
25 movement, the industrial labor movement, the civil rights
26 movement, and the peace movement, to create a more fair and
27 just society for all, and
28 WHEREAS, despite these contributions, the role of
29 American women in history has been consistently overlooked and
30 undervalued in the literature, teaching, and study of American
31 History, NOW, THEREFORE,

1 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
2 Florida:

4 That the House of Representatives of the State of
5 Florida recognizes the month of March as "Women's History
6 Month" and encourages all citizens of the state to observe the
7 month with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities.
