  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution honoring and commending

  3         Tallahassee Habitat for Humanity.

  4

  5         WHEREAS, Habitat for Humanity International, a

  6  nonprofit, nondenominational, ecumenical Christian ministry

  7  dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness

  8  worldwide, was founded by Millard and Linda Fuller in

  9  Americus, Georgia, in 1976, and

10         WHEREAS, the mission of Habitat for Humanity is to

11  provide simple, decent, and affordable housing for people in

12  need, and

13         WHEREAS, Habitat for Humanity is a home-ownership

14  program, not a charity program, affording families in need the

15  opportunity to purchase homes through 400 hours of "sweat

16  equity" and 20-year, zero-interest mortgages, and

17         WHEREAS, since its founding, Habitat for Humanity

18  volunteers have built and rehabilitated more than 70,000 homes

19  around the world, providing more than 350,000 people with

20  safe, decent, affordable shelter, and

21         WHEREAS, in February 1982 Tallahassee Habitat for

22  Humanity was founded and in December 1998 completed

23  construction of and dedicated its 50th home, and

24         WHEREAS, it is appropriate that Tallahassee Habitat for

25  Humanity be recognized and honored for its efforts toward

26  eliminating substandard housing in Leon County, NOW,

27  THEREFORE,

29  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

30  Florida:

  1         That the House of Representatives commends Tallahassee

  2  Habitat for Humanity for its zeal in providing affordable

  3  housing to those to whom it might not otherwise be available

  4  and extends heartiest congratulations on the occasion of its

  5  having reached the milestone achievement of building its 50th

  6  home.

  7         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution

  8  be presented to the Board of Directors of Tallahassee Habitat

  9  for Humanity as a tangible token of the sentiments expressed

10  herein.
