1 House Resolution
2 A resolution supporting the passage of the Lake
3 Ocklawaha Recreation Area Management Plan.

5 WHEREAS, the people of the State of Florida and
6 visitors to the state enjoy and benefit from the Rodman
7 Ecosystem, and
8 WHEREAS, the Rodman Ecosystem is a 10,000 acre home to
9 abundant flora and fauna and has substantial economic,
10 environmental, and recreational benefits to all citizens of
11 Florida, and
12 WHEREAS, the Rodman Ecosystem is home to a vast and
13 varied number of animals and birds, including the endangered
14 Bald Eagle, and
15 WHEREAS, with the increasing demand on Florida's water
16 reserves, the Rodman Ecosystem can provide billions of gallons
17 of water in reserve as a future resource of fresh water for
18 future needs, and
19 WHEREAS, the Rodman Ecosystem has never been managed
20 with the goal of maximizing its environmental and recreational
21 benefits, and
22 WHEREAS, a study group headed by Dr. Dan Canfield and
23 Mark Hoyer of the University of Florida Department of
24 Fisheries has submitted a management plan entitled "Lake
25 Ocklawaha Recreation Area - 'Gateway to the Greenway,'" and
26 WHEREAS, the implementation of this management plan
27 would be of great benefit to the people of the State of
28 Florida and all who enjoy Florida's natural resources, NOW,

1 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
2 Florida:

4 That the Florida House of Representatives hereby
5 expresses its support for the adoption of the Lake Ocklawaha
6 Recreation Area Management Plan.
7 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution
8 be transmitted to the Speaker of the Florida House of
9 Representatives, the President of the Florida Senate, and to
10 each member of the Florida Cabinet.
