1 House Resolution
2 A resolution recognizing the importance of
3 tourism to the State of Florida and designating
4 the month of May as "Florida Tourism Month."

6 WHEREAS, travel and tourism support the vital interests
7 of the State of Florida and the United States, contributing
8 greatly to employment, economic prosperity, international
9 trade and relations, peace, understanding, and goodwill, and
10 WHEREAS, the combination of travel and tourism
11 comprises the state's largest industry in terms of revenues
12 generated, and
13 WHEREAS, the nearly 48.7 million people who visited the
14 state in 1998 were responsible for $43 billion in tourism and
15 recreation sales and supported 820,000 tourism-related jobs
16 for that calendar year, and
17 WHEREAS, as people throughout the world become more
18 aware of the outstanding cultural and recreational activities
19 offered by the state and the nation, travel and tourism will
20 become increasingly important aspects in the lives of
21 Floridians, and
22 WHEREAS, given these laudable contributions to the
23 economic, social, and cultural well-being of the residents of
24 the state, it is fitting that the importance of the tourism
25 and hospitality industry be recognized, that the continued
26 vitality of the tourism and hospitality industry be
27 encouraged, and that the public and private sectors be made
28 aware of the role and contributions of tourism to Florida's
29 economy and quality of life, NOW, THEREFORE,

1 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
2 Florida:

4 That the month of May is hereby designated "Florida
5 Tourism Month" and the citizens of the State of Florida are
6 called upon to observe this month with appropriate ceremonies
7 and activities.
