  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution commending Frank Veltri for his

  3         service to the citizens of this state.

  4

  5         WHEREAS, Frank Veltri has been a community leader in

  6  the City of Plantation and in Broward County for more than 40

  7  years, and

  8         WHEREAS, Mr. Veltri, a native of Nashville, Tennessee,

  9  came to Broward County in 1952 to work for the First Federal

10  Savings and Loan Association of Broward County and continued

11  to work for the savings and loan as comptroller, vice

12  president, and executive vice president-treasurer until his

13  retirement from the association in 1977, and

14         WHEREAS, Mr. Veltri moved to the City of Plantation in

15  1955, co-founded the city's Volunteer Fire Department shortly

16  thereafter, and spent many years as a neighborhood activist

17  until being elected to the city council in 1969, and

18         WHEREAS, Mr. Veltri was elected Mayor of the City of

19  Plantation in 1975 and held that position through successive

20  reelection until his self-imposed retirement on March 12,

21  1999, and

22         WHEREAS, Mr. Veltri has served on the Ft. Lauderdale

23  and Plantation Chambers of Commerce, the Society of Savings

24  and Loan Controllers of South Florida, the National Society of

25  Savings and Loan Controllers, the Broward Industrial Board,

26  the Broward County League of Cities, the Crime Deterrent

27  Committee of the Florida Savings and Loan League, the Board of

28  Commissioners of the North Broward Hospital District, District

29  No. 5, the Metropolitan Transportation Organization for the

30  Broward County Road System, and the Board of Advisors of the

31  South Florida Symphony Orchestra Association, and

  1         WHEREAS, Mr. Veltri was also a charter member and the

  2  second president of the Rotary Club of Plantation and a

  3  charter member and former treasurer of the Greater Fort

  4  Lauderdale Aviation Association, and

  5         WHEREAS, it is appropriate that Mr. Veltri be commended

  6  for such exemplary community service, NOW, THEREFORE,

  7

  8  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

  9  Florida:

10

11         That the Florida House of Representatives hereby

12  commends Frank Veltri for his many years of service to the

13  citizens of the City of Plantation, Broward County, and this

14  state.
