  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to health care coverage;

  3         creating s. 627.6414, F.S.; requiring health

  4         and group health insurance policies to provide

  5         coverage for certain eye examinations and

  6         medically necessary followup visits for

  7         specified minors; amending s. 641.31, F.S.;

  8         requiring health maintenance contracts that

  9         cover certain minors to provide coverage for

10         certain eye examination and medically necessary

11         followup visits; providing an effective date.

13  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

15         Section 1.  Section 627.6414, Florida Statutes, is

16  created to read:

17         627.6414  Coverage of eye examinations for children up

18  to the age of 5 years.--A health insurance policy or group

19  health insurance policy must cover one routine eye examination

20  for a child up to the age of 5 years, plus any medically

21  necessary followup visits.

22         Section 2.  Subsection (39) is added to section 641.31,

23  Florida Statutes, to read:

24         641.31  Health maintenance contracts.--

25         (39)  A health maintenance contract that covers a child

26  under the age of 18 years and provides coverage, benefits, or

27  services for members of the family of a subscriber must

28  provide coverage for one routine eye examination for each

29  child up to the age of 5 years, plus any medically necessary

30  followup visits.

31         Section 3.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2000.
