  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to food product dating;

  3         requiring food products to display shelf-life

  4         expiration dates; providing exceptions;

  5         providing an effective date.

  7  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  9         Section 1.  Any retail food product sold in a container

10  in the state must display a conspicuous "BEST IF USED BY" or

11  "SELL BY" date that indicates the month, day, and year of the

12  expiration of the shelf-life of the product. This section does

13  not apply to fresh fruits and vegetables or items that sell

14  for less than 25 cents apiece. The dating may be done by the

15  seller, wholesaler, vendor, or retailer.

16         Section 2.  This act shall take effect October 1, 2000.
