17 and insert:
18 Section 10. Contingency fund.--
19 (1) Any county with a population of less than 85,000,
20 according to the most recent decennial census, may apply to
21 the Office of the State Courts Administrator for additional
22 funding to cover extraordinary criminal case related costs.
23 (2) The Office of the State Courts Administrator, in
24 consultation with the chairs of the appropriations committees
25 of the Legislature, shall develop a process whereby counties
26 may request funds pursuant to this section. Such process
27 shall be consistent with legislative intent regarding this
28 act. The Office of the State Courts Administrator shall
29 review any request for funds by a county under this section
30 and, if the Office of the State Courts Administrator
31 determines that a request is valid, it may provide assistance

1 upon finding a qualifying county's budget is inadequate to
2 cover extraordinary criminal case related costs and that the
3 deficiency will result in an impairment of the operations of
4 the county.
5 (3) The State Courts Administrator shall submit a
6 report on a quarterly basis, including a complete accounting
7 of the contingency fund.
