2 An act relating to the Legislature; creating s.
3 11.65, F.S.; creating the Joint Legislative
4 Committee on Statutory Oversight to review the
5 Florida Statutes and make annual reports on
6 obsolete and inactive statutes and functions
7 that government should no longer provide;
8 providing an effective date.

10 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

12 Section 1. Section 11.65, Florida Statutes, is created
13 to read:
14 11.65 Joint Legislative Committee on Statutory
15 Oversight.--
16 (1) The Joint Legislative Committee on Statutory
17 Oversight is created. The committee shall be composed of six
18 members appointed as follows: three members of the Senate
19 appointed by the President of the Senate and three members of
20 the House of Representatives appointed by the Speaker of the
21 House of Representatives. The President of the Senate shall
22 appoint the chair in even-numbered years and the vice chair in
23 odd-numbered years, and the Speaker of the House of
24 Representatives shall appoint the chair in odd-numbered years
25 and the vice chair in even-numbered years, from among the
26 committee membership. A vacancy shall be filled in the same
27 manner as the original appointment.
28 (2) The joint committee shall maintain a continuous
29 review of the Florida Statutes to identify obsolete and
30 inactive statutes and functions that government should no
31 longer perform. The joint committee shall make recommendations

1 to the Legislature, including proposed legislation, in an
2 annual report to be submitted by October 15 of each year.
3 Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
4 law.
