1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to road designations;
3 designating a portion of State Road 63 in
4 Havana as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Road;
5 directing the Department of Transportation to
6 erect suitable markers; providing an effective
7 date.

9 WHEREAS, State Road 63, also known as North and South
10 Main Street, and U.S. 27, inside the city limits of Havana,
11 traverses neighborhoods that are both black and white, and
12 WHEREAS, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., was a soldier for
13 all the people, not just one race, and
14 WHEREAS, the citizens of Havana would like to honor Dr.
15 King's efforts to bring harmony among people by renaming the
16 portion of State Road 63 inside the city limits in his memory,
17 NOW, THEREFORE,

19 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

21 Section 1. Martin Luther King, Jr., Road designation;
22 Department of Transportation to erect suitable makers.--
23 (1) State Road 63, also known as North and South Main
24 Street, and U.S. 27, inside the city limits of Havana, is
25 hereby designated as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Road.
26 (2) The Department of Transportation is directed to
27 erect suitable markers designating Dr. Martin Luther King,
28 Jr., Road as described in subsection (1).
29 Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
30 law.
