  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to lawyer-client privilege;

  3         amending s. 90.502, F.S.; providing that a

  4         discussion or activity that is not a meeting

  5         for purposes of s. 286.011, F.S., does not

  6         waive the attorney-client privilege; providing

  7         an effective date.

  9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10

11         Section 1.  Subsection (6) is added to section 90.502,

12  Florida Statutes, to read:

13         90.502  Lawyer-client privilege.--

14         (6)  A discussion or activity that is not a meeting for

15  purposes of s. 286.011 shall not be construed to waive the

16  attorney-client privilege established in this section. This

17  shall not be construed to constitute an exemption to either s.

18  119.07 or s. 286.011.

19         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2000.

21          STATEMENT OF SUBSTANTIAL CHANGES CONTAINED IN
                       COMMITTEE SUBSTITUTE FOR
22                             SB 1620

24  Provides that a discussion or activity that is not a meeting
    for purposes of s. 286.011, F.S., is not to be construed to
25  waive the attorney-client privilege.

26  Clarifies that the provision does not create an exemption, or
    alter an existing exemption, to either s. 119.07 or s.
27  286.011, F.S.
