13 Senate Amendment (with title amendment)
14 On page 148, between lines 10 and 11,

16 insert:
17 Section 65. Effective January 7, 2003, a transition of
18 the powers and duties of the Board of Regents and the State
19 Board of Community Colleges to the State Board of Education
20 shall begin to be implemented. The Board of Regents and the
21 State Board of Community Colleges shall be abolished on July
22 1, 2005, at which time the State Board of Education shall
23 retain all related funding and budget authority for purposes
24 of a single, seamless education system and a single or
25 coordinated budget, and may retain or redistribute the powers
26 and duties of each entity in accordance with the policies and
27 guiding principles of this act.
