1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to the state group insurance
3 program; amending s. 110.123, F.S.; providing a
4 period of time during which certain retired
5 officers and employees may elect to participate
6 under the program; providing an effective date.

8 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10 Section 1. Paragraph (f) of subsection (3) of section
11 110.123, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:
12 110.123 State group insurance program.--
13 (3) STATE GROUP INSURANCE PROGRAM.--
14 (f)1. Participation by individuals in the program
15 shall be available to all state officers, full-time state
16 employees, and part-time state employees; and such
17 participation in the program or any plan thereof shall be
18 voluntary. Participation in the program shall also be
19 available to retired state officers and employees who elect at
20 the time of retirement to continue coverage under the program,
21 but they may elect to continue all or only part of the
22 coverage they had at the time of retirement. A surviving
23 spouse may elect to continue coverage only under the state
24 group health insurance plan or a health maintenance
25 organization plan.
26 2. Commencing on July 1, 2000, there shall be a
27 one-time period of 90 days during which retired state officers
28 and employees who did not elect at the time of retirement to
29 continue coverage under the program may elect to participate
30 in the program with all or part of the coverage they had at
31 the time of retirement.

1 Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
2 law.

Provides for a one-time 90-day period commencing on July
7 1, 2000, during which retired officers and employees who
did not elect to continue coverage under the state group
8 insurance program at the time of retirement may elect to
participate in the program.
