13         Amendment (with title amendment) 

14         On page 16, between lines 20 and 21 of the bill

15

16  insert:

17         Section 9.  Youth Custody Officer.--

18         (1)  There is created within the Department of Juvenile

19  Justice the position of youth custody officer.  The purpose of

20  the youth custody officer is to take youth into custody if the

21  officer has probable cause to believe that the youth has

22  violated the conditions of probation, home detention,

23  conditional release or post-commitment probation, or has

24  probable cause to believe that the youth has failed to appear

25  in court, after being properly noticed.  The authority of

26  youth custody officers to take youth into custody is

27  specifically limited to this purpose.

28         (2)  A  youth custody officer shall meet the minimum

29  qualifications for employment or appointment and be certified

30  pursuant to chapter 943, and shall maintain the requirements

31  for continued employment required by s. 943.135.  The

 1  Department of Juvenile Justice must comply with the

 2  responsibilities provided for an employing agency under s.

 3  943.133 for each youth custody officer.

 4         (3)  Youth custody officers shall keep appropriate

 5  local law enforcement agencies apprised of their activities

 6  under this section.
