1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to the Olympic Games; providing
3 legislative intent and establishing a process
4 to evaluate the benefits of Tampa's hosting the
5 Olympic Games in 2012; providing an effective
6 date.

8 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10 Section 1. (1) Through the medium of sport and
11 athletic competition, the Olympic Games make an important
12 contribution to building a better, more peaceful world by
13 displaying to the world the highest ideals of mutual
14 understanding, friendship, respect, solidarity, and fair play.
15 To assist in promoting these ideals, and in recognition of the
16 potential benefits to this state and its residents, the
17 Legislature expresses its desire to bring the Olympic Games to
18 this state and to assist the City of Tampa and its official
19 bid committee, Florida 2012, a nonprofit domestic corporation,
20 in their efforts to secure the designation of Tampa as the
21 host city for the XXXth Olympic Summer Games in 2012.
22 (2) The Legislature shall establish a process to
23 evaluate the short-term and long-term benefits to the state
24 and its residents of hosting the Olympic Games, to identify
25 the action the state should take to give the state's bid to
26 host the games the greatest chance of success, and to
27 determine the actions the state should take to ensure that any
28 Olympic Games hosted in this state provide a lasting legacy of
29 which all Floridians can be proud.
30 Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
31 law.
