11  The Committee on Criminal Justice Appropriations offered the

12  following:

14         Amendment 

15         On page 3, lines 9 through 18,

16  remove from the bill:  all of said lines

18  and insert in lieu thereof:  (2)  The department shall

19  establish and operate a geriatric facility at the site known

20  as River Junction Correctional Institution, which shall be an

21  institution specifically for generally healthy elderly

22  offenders who can perform general work appropriate for their

23  physical and mental condition.  For Fiscal Year 2000-2001, the

24  facility may be operated as an adjunct to Apalachee

25  Correctional Institution with a minimum capacity of 400 beds.

26  Future capacity of the facility will be determined by the

27  study required by subsection (6).  Prior to reopening the

28  facility, the department shall make modifications to the

29  facility which will ensure its compliance with the Americans

30  with Disabilities Act and decrease the likelihood of falls,

31  accidental injury, and other conditions known to be
