2 An act relating to natural hormone replacement
3 therapy; providing intent; requiring managed
4 care providers and medical insurers to
5 reimburse patients who choose such therapy;
6 providing guidelines; providing an effective
7 date.

9 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11 Section 1. Natural hormone replacement therapy; right
12 to reimbursement.--
13 (1) The purpose of this act is to ensure that women
14 are given the option to choose natural hormone replacement
15 therapy, which is a drug prescribed by a physician and
16 compounded (composed or combined) by a compounding pharmacist,
17 and to have this option reimbursed by insurance companies.
18 (2) A woman who contracts with any managed care
19 provider or medical insurer in this state may choose to take
20 natural hormone replacement therapy if such therapy is
21 prescribed by a physician and compounded by a pharmacist. If
22 the patient chooses natural hormone replacement therapy, the
23 managed care provider or insurance company must reimburse her
24 for the costs and expenses associated with taking the natural
25 hormone replacement therapy, in the same proportion that
26 reimbursement is provided under the managed care plan or
27 insurance contract for any alternative treatment that
28 addresses substantially the same medical condition or
29 conditions.
30 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2000.
