  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to traffic crash reports;

  3         amending s. 316.066, F.S.; requiring officers

  4         of the Florida Highway Patrol to include

  5         certain information on traffic crash reports;

  6         providing for an annual report; providing an

  7         effective date.

  9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11         Section 1.  Subsection (7) is added to section 316.066,

12  Florida Statutes, to read:

13         316.066  Written reports of crashes.--

14         (7)  Crash reports made by officers of the Florida

15  Highway Patrol shall include information indicating whether or

16  not the driver was using a cellular telephone when the

17  accident occurred.  The Florida Highway Patrol shall compile

18  an annual report to the Speaker of the House of

19  Representatives, the President of the Senate, and the Governor

20  detailing the number of crashes in which the driver was using

21  a cellular telephone at the time of the crash, with the first

22  report due on January 1, 2002.  Reporting of such information

23  shall begin on October 1, 2000.

24         Section 2.  This act shall take effect October 1, 2000.

    Requires officers of the Florida Highway Patrol to include
29  information on traffic crash reports indicating whether or not
    the driver was using a cellular telephone at the time of the
30  traffic crash.  Requires the Florida Highway Patrol to prepare
    and file an annual report to the Speaker of the House of
31  Representatives, the President of the Senate, and the Governor
