  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to weapons and firearms;

  3         amending s. 790.015, F.S., relating to

  4         reciprocity for concealed weapons or firearms

  5         licenses issued outside of the state; extending

  6         application of said section to residents of

  7         Puerto Rico; providing an effective date.

  9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11         Section 1.  Section 790.015, Florida Statutes, is

12  amended to read:

13         790.015  Nonresidents who are United States citizens

14  and hold a concealed weapons license in another state or in

15  Puerto Rico; reciprocity.--

16         (1)  Notwithstanding s. 790.01, a resident of the

17  United States or Puerto Rico who is a nonresident of Florida

18  may carry a concealed weapon or concealed firearm while in

19  this state if the nonresident:

20         (a)  Is 21 years of age or older; and

21         (b)  Has in his or her immediate possession a valid

22  license to carry a concealed weapon or concealed firearm

23  issued to the nonresident in his or her state of residence or

24  in Puerto Rico.

25         (2)  A nonresident is subject to the same laws and

26  restrictions with respect to carrying a concealed weapon or

27  concealed firearm as a resident of Florida who is so licensed.

28         (3)  If the resident of another state or Puerto Rico

29  who is the holder of a valid license to carry a concealed

30  weapon or concealed firearm issued in another state or Puerto

31  Rico establishes legal residence in this state by registering

  1  to vote, or making a statement of domicile pursuant to s.

  2  222.17, or filing for homestead tax exemption on property in

  3  this state, the license shall remain in effect for 90 days

  4  following the date on which the holder of the license

  5  establishes legal state residence. This section applies only

  6  to nonresident concealed weapon or concealed firearm

  7  licenseholders from states that honor Florida concealed weapon

  8  or concealed firearm licenses and to nonresident concealed

  9  weapon or concealed firearm licenseholders from Puerto Rico.

10         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

11  law.

14                          HOUSE SUMMARY

      Provides that a resident of Puerto Rico may carry a
16    concealed weapon or firearm in this state under certain
      circumstances. Provides that an out-of-state license to
17    carry a concealed weapon or firearm remains in effect for
      90 days following the date on which the licenseholder
18    establishes legal residence in Florida. Provides that the
      act applies to concealed weapon or concealed firearm
19    licenseholders from Puerto Rico.
