1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to special observances;
3 creating s. 683.23, F.S.; designating "Florida
4 Family Day" as a day for the acknowledgement of
5 the importance of the family in the State of
6 Florida; providing an effective date.

8 WHEREAS, the family is the fundamental building block
9 of society, and
10 WHEREAS, within healthy families, children are
11 instilled with values essential to the vitality of our state
12 and nation, and
13 WHEREAS, these values include personal responsibility,
14 honesty, duty, commitment to others, a work ethic, respect for
15 authority, and sound educational habits, and
16 WHEREAS, given the tremendous influence of the family,
17 the State of Florida should do its utmost to promote strong
18 families within the state, and
19 WHEREAS, it is the intent of this act, in designating
20 the observance of Florida Family Day, to acknowledge and
21 emphasize the importance of families to the success and
22 well-being of the state, NOW, THEREFORE,
23
24 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
25
26 Section 1. Section 683.23, Florida Statutes, is
27 created to read:
28 683.23 Florida Family Day.--The Friday preceding
29 Mother's Day of each year is designated "Florida Family Day."
30 On this day, public officials, schools, private organizations,
31 and all citizens are encouraged both to acknowledge and

1 emphasize the importance of Florida's families to the success
2 and well-being of the state and to reaffirm their commitment
3 to promote strong families within the state.
4 Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
5 law.
