17 and insert in lieu thereof:
18 (3) The organization shall adopt bylaws that require
19 all students participating in athletic competition or who are
20 candidates for an athletic team to satisfactorily pass a
21 complete physical examination each year prior to participating
22 in high school athletic competition or engaging in any
23 practice, tryout, workout, or other physical activity
24 associated with the student's candidacy for an athletic team.
25 Such physical examination must be administered by a
26 practitioner licensed under the provisions of chapter 458,
27 chapter 459, chapter 460, or s. 464.012 and in good standing
28 with the practitioner's appropriate regulatory board. Physical
29 examinations conducted by a podiatric physician licensed under
30 chapter 461, an optometrist licensed under chapter 463, or a
31 dentist licensed under chapter 466 shall not be acceptable for

1 purposes of satisfying the requirements of this paragraph. The
2 bylaws shall establish requirements for passing the physical
3 examination, which shall include minimum standards for the
4 physical capabilities necessary for participation in high
5 school athletic competition. Practitioners administering
6 physical examinations pursuant to this section must know the
7 minimum standards established by the organization and certify
8 that the student meets the standards. Results of such physical
9 examination must be provided to the athletic department of the
10 student's high school. No student shall be eligible to
11 participate in any athletic competition or engage in any
12 practice, tryout, workout, or other physical activity
13 associated with the student's candidacy for an athletic team
14 until the results of the physical examination verifying that
15 the student has satisfactorily passed the examination have
16 been received and approved by the athletic department.
17 (4) Notwithstanding the provisions of subsection (3),
18 a student may participate in athletic competition or be a
19 candidate for an athletic team if the parent or guardian of
20 the student objects in writing to the student undergoing a
21 physical examination because such examination is contrary to
22 his or her religious tenets or practices, provided that no
23 person shall be held liable for any injury or other damages
24 suffered by such student resulting from his or her
25 participation in athletic competition or in any practice,
26 tryout, workout, or other physical activity associated with
27 his or her candidacy for an athletic team.
