  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to the tax on sales, use, and

  3         other transactions; amending s. 212.08, F.S.;

  4         providing that a public athletic facility at

  5         which a collegiate athletic team is based may

  6         retain certain sales tax proceeds and may use

  7         those proceeds for the purpose of renovating

  8         the public facility; providing an effective

  9         date.

11  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13         Section 1.  Paragraph (n) is added to subsection (5) of

14  section 212.08, Florida Statutes, to read:

15         212.08  Sales, rental, use, consumption, distribution,

16  and storage tax; specified exemptions.--The sale at retail,

17  the rental, the use, the consumption, the distribution, and

18  the storage to be used or consumed in this state of the

19  following are hereby specifically exempt from the tax imposed

20  by this chapter.

21         (5)  EXEMPTIONS; ACCOUNT OF USE.--

22         (n)  Public athletic facility at which a college

23  athletic team is based.--Any public athletic facility at which

24  the athletic team of a private or public university or college

25  is based may retain the proceeds of sales taxes generated by

26  the facility, its concessionaires, ticket sales,

27  merchandising, ticket surcharges imposed by the local

28  government, charges for services, and rental of the facility

29  and may use these tax proceeds for the purpose of renovating

30  and modernizing the facility.

31         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2000.
